CETT Successfully Delivers Two Co-Creation Workshops to Build VERNE’s Circular Tourism Performance Indicator Framework
In February 2026, CETT (WP1 Leader) organised two online co-creation workshops with European stakeholders and experts in circular tourism to collaboratively develop VERNE’s Performance Indicator Framework for assessing the impact of circular tourism at destination and tourism model levels.
The workshops were coordinated by Montserrat Sánchez and Elena Ridolfi with the collaboration of Inèdit, bringing together professionals, researchers, and representatives from Europe and from VERNE’s pilot destinations.
A collaborative approach
The first workshop, delivered on February 12th, gathered 36 participants, mainly tourism professionals and experts. The session focused on discussing a preliminary list of 30 general key performance indicators (KPIs), classified according to the three sustainability dimensions: environmental, socio-cultural, and economic.
The second workshop, held on February 19th, brought together 45 stakeholders from the five VERNE Pilot Destinations (Bornholm, Sønderjylland–Schleswig, Santorini, Uusimaa and Pomurje). The session focused on discussing a preliminary list of specific KPIs (8-10 per pilot), designed to reflect the unique context and needs of each Pilot Destination. The proposed indicators were also structured around the three sustainability dimensions.
Next steps
CETT is currently integrating the insights and feedback gathered during both workshops to develop the final set of general and pilot-specific KPIs. The framework is being further validated with experts and stakeholders to ensure its scalability, feasibility and replicability across European tourism destinations.
